A Study on System Diagnoses Based on Commonsense Reasoning

Abstract
Given a specification of a system and observed data, if the observed data do not match the expected data we have to find a plausible explanation. This process is called "diagnosis." To distinguish from diagnosis based on heuristic rules, such as that of MYCIN, this type of diagnosis is referred to as "diagnosis from first principles."
In this reserch, we investigated a way to perform diagnosis from first principles using commonsense reasoning techniques. System diagnosis based on commonsense reasoning can be applied to systems that perform tasks in the real world such as robots. We proposed several ways to apply the result in real world systems.
